I don't suck anymore...

AHHHHHH!!! I feel like my soul has re-entered my body. I feel so at home as I lay on my parents couch, with my dad's laptop, having just eaten a meal that my mother prepared, enjoying the serenity that comes to me as I make a post on my blog. Oh, I have missed my blog. I have missed thinking "oh, that is definitely blog worthy" or "I could blog about this!"

Yes, my life is still in chaos. No, I have not found a job yet. No, I have not found new renters. HOWEVER, the tenants from hell will be leaving on Feburary 19th (a month early mind you) with hopefully no problems. My stress will now lie in finding new renters.

Miraclously, I am not stressing. I feel like I should stress because I am not stressing. This is so unlike me. Cheesy moment coming....I thank the good Lord for providing me with peace and unbelieveable calmness. Yes, if you look at me the wrong way, I might burst into tears... but whatever, I'm like totally fine.

So, enough of about my emotional instability. Let me discuss some things I have observed over the past 2 weeks:

1. Being unemployeed is sort of nice. I get to sleep until whenever, not shower all day, watch Ellen at 3 and play on the internet all day.

2. I need the internet at my house. Having to drive to my mom's and chill on her couch with her laptop is nice, but sometimes it is just a hassle.

3. I am obsessed with checking my email. I think I might have OCD or something. It's like a drug. So yes, I need the internet at my house.

4. Even though being unemployeed is nice, I really wish I was working. I actually like working. I never thought I would admit that.

5. I have about the greatest friends in the entire world. In one week, I had 3 cards to send to me, 1 small bunch of pink tulips, 1 present of candles for lounging in the bath, and 1 case of Apple Beer. AND, about 15 people offer to call friends or connections that they might have.

I actually am working now. A good, oh so gracious friend needed a receptionist at his work and called me because he knew of my situation. Hopefully, I won't be answering phones for much longer - but for now, my days will be spent answering phones. I just had a flashback to when I was 20. Wow, good times. My college degree is really coming in handy now!

Anyway, this post was rather long and pretty boring. Geez, I've lost all my funny. I'll get it back, I'm not worried. I'm awesome like that.

I suck

Ok, so my life is in total disaster mode and I haven't even thought about my blog. In the midst of trying to find a new job, I have to find new renters for my rental property and get rid of the current ones who cause me such greats amount of anxiety I am about to check into a psych clinic.

ok, my blog is not the place for my venting or personal frustrations. Just thought I would check in and say that there will be no Flashback Friday today. I apologize. Once my life gets back in order, it will be up and running again.

Trapeze Extravaganza

Finally, we are up and running. Sorry it took me so long to upload this video.

Every year when Jinny takes my family on our exotic trip over Christmas, I get to play like I am in the circus. At almost every resort we have gone to, they have a trapeze. It's free for everyone and is open every day from 4 until 6 pm. Perfect because it doesn't interfere with my beach time. Because really, getting a tan usually trumps any other activity that might be offered.

Not only is the trapeze fun, but usually we make great friends with other guests of the resort that enjoy the trapeze too. We end up calling them the trapeze regulars. We learn their names, where they are from, what they do. And usually by the end of the week, these people share a special bond with us. A bond that can never be broken. That bond is a love for all things trapeze. I might just join the circus. It really is much more fun that sitting at a desk all day.

This is me performing the trick called "the split".

New Years

So I have been having technical difficulties while trying to post a video of my trapeze extravaganza. If anyone knows how to make a 31M video file smaller, please let me know. Once I have figured that out, I will be posting a very good video.

Ok. So. New Years. Luckily, for the past 12 years I have not been home for New Years. I don't know what it is like to try and make plans for New Years. It's very nice. However, this still doesn't mean I don't think New Years is completely overrated.

Club Med actually does a nice job at New Year's celebrations. They have activities going all night and usually make the evening quite entertaining.

Dinner was lovely:

However, after dinner when I looked at the clock counting down and we still had 3 hours I thought, "Would anyone notice if I just went to bed right now?"

So, with three hours to burn, what did my family do? We gathered a bunch of seats together and stared at each other. Ok, wait, we stared at all the drunk people around us.

We also watched my dear sweet brothers being hit on by this chic. She was definitely wanting someone to kiss when the clock struck 12.

We continued to sit while the masses danced "the macarena". That is like so 10 years ago. And so instead of participating, I took pictures. I think the only legitimate excuse for doing that dance is if you are plowed and will not have any recollection of doing it the next day.

We took some goofy pictures to pass the time:

And once they passed out hats and whistles, it was on. I guess plastic toys that make noise are more entertaining to my family than dancing the night away.

Remind me to have Alex's obscene hand gesture photoshoped out of this picture before I have it printed.
Happy New Years!

Flashback Friday - OLY High Dance Company 2000

It's back. Flashback Friday had a brief two week hiatus but is now fully up and running again.

Now this picture brings back some memories. Sometimes, I wish I could go back to simpler times and relive high school again. And then I remember how excited I was to graduate and move on and so the thought is quickly disregarded.

Here we are. The Olympus High School Dance Company's senior class. I have no idea why we were holding hands. So freaking cheesy. But, if I recall, this was our spring dance concert and we are in costume for our "senior piece".... so I find it only fitting that we were the height of cheesiness. A few coworkers saw this picture before I posted it and the first question that came out of each of their mouths was, "Why are you all holding hands?" To which I reply, "I have no idea."

This picture isn't really all that embarrassing and it is probably one of my better ones from my high school days. I mean, there was no such things as a straight iron back then. And, if there was, I definitely was not in on the secret. If I ever feel so obliged to really embarrass myself, I'll post more pictures from high school.

Please wait, the Harris family is on their way

I love traveling. I love seeing new places, different cultures and just getting out and exploring the world. I do not however love the process of traveling. Airports are evil.

Once we arrived at the Ixtapa airport to go home, I instantly wanted to be teleported home. Even though I was still in warm weather, I dreaded the next 8 hours of my life. Our 1st flight was landing in Phoenix and we had a two hour layover before our flight to SLC. Just enough time we thought. We shouldn't have been so optimistic.

Our plane was 1 hour late and by the time we took off, we feared the worst. As we landed, the stewardess came over the speaker and asked everyone who didn't have an immediate connection to wait in their seats and let the people that have close connections get off first. She said, "there is a family from London trying to make it back home and their plane leaves in 10 minutes." I wanted to say, "Lady, those foreigners aren't even going to be through customs in 10 minutes!"

Before I knew it, the Londoners were running down the aisle pushing people out of their way. The mom yelled out, "CHILDREN.. HURRY! CHILDREN, CHILDREN!!!" (just imagine that in a British accent) Soon the aisles were clogged and half the kids from London were still stuck in the back. All hell broke lose then. London mom yelled back, "I have children! Let my children through!" Another random lady yelled out, "Well, I have kids too!" And I sat there smiling to myself at the mental breakdown of two complete strangers.

We made it off the plane, through customs and managed to get all NINE pieces of luggage from baggage claim rather quickly. That's right... nine pieces of luggage for 6 people. Shocking. Those damned 3 sets of golf clubs normally hold up any quick escape my family might have.

Any hope we had on making our flight was quickly squashed when we got in line for security... and waited 45 minutes in line. By the time we got through security it was 8:53. Our plane left at 8:55. My mom stayed back with Bob and Jinny and the rest of us picked up our bags and ran. I believe I almost died twice on my sprint to the gate. This was no short distance we had to run.

Example A: We went through Security Check B (which is under the 3rd to the right large box above). Our gate was A24 (the far left box...at the end). This picture doesn't do it justice.

By the time we reached the gate, I felt like I had just ran a marathon. I half expected the gate agent to give me a metal and wrap one of those silver blankets around me and congratulate me on a job well done. But, he didn't. Damn him.

The four kids got on the plane while the ticket agent told my dad to wait outside for my mom and grandparents. There's nothing like running on a plane panting and drenched from my own sweat to make a girl feel pretty. Oh, and I hadn't showered that day either. Needless to say, my fantasy of meeting a hot, eligible bachelor and falling madly in love while on the plane was not going to happen.

The captain made an announcement and said he was waiting on a few passengers that were trying to make the connection. READ: my family. And that he would wait 10 more minutes. Five minutes later, they shut the plane door.

My sister Hailey grabbed a flight attendant and said, "My parents and grandparents are right outside. We can't leave them." Instead of running down the aisle screaming, which is what I would have preferred the flight attendant to do, he calmly picked up the phone in the back and rang the attendant at the front of the plane to inform him of our situation.

About a minute later, the captain came back on and said, "We have a situation. There are a set of grandparents outside the gate that are trying to get on the plane. If you could all be patient while we sort this out, it would be appreciated. But I am sure you can all understand that if it was your grandparents out there, you would want us to wait too. Thanks for you patience."

And with that, the plane erupted in cheers. People were high fiving, cat calling and whistling. I was tempted to stand and give a "thank you speech" to everyone on the plane. Ok, not really. But, people did cheer.

My parents and grandparents were finally let on the plane and we made it safely home. My family delayed the flight by 20 minutes. Makes for a memorable story.

I belong on the beach... always

I am back from my family trip to Ixtapa, Mexico....sadly. Yes, you feel sorry for me, I know. Most people do. My life is so difficult.

Anyway, I don't have time to blog today and tell stories - in which I have many, but thought I would post some pictures from my trip in the meantime.

Upcoming posts will include, but are not limited to:

- New Year's Eve celebration
- My trapeze adventures
- Travel fiasco of 2008

My view everyday on the beach:

Main part of the resort:

Me, my dad and Hailey:

Austin, Hailey, Alex and Me:

Right before my daily nap:

Shopping in the town market:

These beds were highly coveted by other resort vacationers. Although, thanks to my dad and the fact that he can't sleep past 6 am, almost every day we enjoyed the luxuries of a very comfortable bed for reading, napping or just relaxing:

Thanks Jinny for the fabulous trip! I have the best grandma in the whole entire world!
